The Bathhouse, the wildly decadent nightspot that launched in 2009, closed it's doors in September 2011, after 2 wonderful years, with the launch new venture in Stoke Newington this March. Like a phoenix that rises from the ashes, The Bathhouse has spread its colorful plumage in the venue formerly known as The Gold Bar, which was destroyed by a fire in 2010.
The Victorian-inspired mothership - nestled in a gothic, Liverpool Street graveyard - will spawn its new and exciting offspring on Stoke Newington’s vibrant Church Street.
The Baby Bathhouse will showcase a cocktail bar on the first floor and a nightclub in the basement.
Boldly re-imagining the venue’s interior, The Baby Bathhouse will feature luxurious design features inspired by the Victorian era.
‘More is more’, will be the brave and opulent design inspiration for The Baby Bathhouse. The venue’s battleship grey and brass exterior will feature a church-style door and exterior lanterns. Luxurious details in the cocktail bar on the ground floor will follow decorative design ideals rooted in the Victorian period. Custommade seating, fashioned from reclaimed church pews in dark wood lend the interior an ecclesiastic feel while walls clad in deep violet
padded panels and a black and white porcelain floor create the ambience of a cosy, Victorian parlour.
The design will follow a similar format to iconic Bishopsgate establishment, following the subtle design references to a Victorian era that revelled in anatomy, discovery and botanicals with the cocktail area transformed into a seductive, candlelit enclave of chandeliers and luxurious deep violet velvet.
Retaining the same motifs as The Bathhouse, the dark wood bar top will feature the original venue’s signature wallpaper and cut out insets, filled with Victorian curious and covered in glass. Tiffany lamps will decorate the bar area and bottles will sit atop shelving fashioned from of antique dressing tables, meanwhile, the purple walls of the bar will be flanked by light boxes containing gothic florals and skeletons.
The nightclub in the basement area will explore the darker side of Victorian erotica; walls featuring the same purple velvet cladding as the upstairs interior will be decorated with framed images of Victorian and gothic art. Two private alcoves with private seating sit behind the DJ booth. The snug bar will have a cosy corner with Victorian-inspired tables and perches and church pews and tall, black wrought iron tables and stools will provide additional seating in the club. With a sizable garden / terrace, complete with cobbled Victorian inspired walkway, street lamps, outdoor seating and barbecue area, completes the offering.
A foxy entertainment programme will showcase an unforgettable collision of cutting edge amusements, encompassing live music, comedy, literature, fashion and performance art. Guests can expect a series of curious, unusual and utterly enchanting ‘conversations’ from a cast of curiously fascinating speakers, parlour games, performers and otherworldly orators. Meanwhile, additional programming will be cooked-up by Nathan Gregory Wilkins, co-pioneer of the now-mythical Electric Stew and Boombox DJ, one of the most legendary nightclub movements of the last century.
